WHO WE ARE
The Indonesian Student Association in Montreal was established in 1990. We are
an organization that has been built upon kinship and our profound belief in Indonesian values. We have developed into a strong community with hundreds of connections of current members and alumni.
Through continuous team effort, we strive to promote our unique cultures and serve as a space for our members to gather, learn and have fun. We do our best to organize a wide range of activities for our members including social, educational, and cultural events. Our most celebrated events are Aloen-Aloen and PERMIKA National Congress which we hold annually.

Halo! Used to be known as the Dutch East Indies, Indonesia is the largest Southeast Asian country with nearly 300 million inhabitants, the fourth most populous in the world. We share our borders with Malaysia, New Guinea, East Timor, Singapore, Philippines, and Australia. Our nation is an archipelago, consisting of over 17 thousand islands, which Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Sulawesi, and West Papua are among the largest. Our population is multi-ethnic and diverse, coloured by over 700 local languages as well as rich cultures and traditions which we hold dearly. Pay us a visit!
INDONESIA
Nicknamed as the Great White North, Canada is the second largest country in the world with its land extending to the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Ocean. Being in North America, Canada has close political and cultural ties with its southern neighbour, the United States. In fact, Canada shares one of the longest borders in the world with 13 U.S. states, including Alaska. Despite English and French being the official languages, dozens of native tongues continue to be practiced to date. Canada is rich in diversity and multiculturalism where one in five of its residents are immigrants. Canada celebrates inclusivity, as in 2019, it received close to 64,000 asylum claimants. Canada has ten provinces and three territories with Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and its capital city, Ottawa as its major cities. Canada is famous for its beautiful nature and landscapes, with 12% of the nation's landmass and freshwater as conservation areas.

Home of the Montreal Canadiens and bonjour-hi is how we greet you. Montreal is one of the largest French speaking cities in the world. However, most residents here also speak English which makes our city rich linguistically. Montreal is a vibrant cosmopolitan metropolis, a hot spot for various attractions, from music to gastronomy. Our city is among the most populous Canadian cities, first in the province of Quebec and second in Canada. Montreal is North America's number one host city for international events which include Formula 1 Canadian Grand Prix, Montreal International Jazz Festival, Festival International Nuits d'Afrique de Montréal, and Just for Laughs Festival. What's more? In 2017, Montreal was ranked first in the QS Best Student Cities in terms of affordability, desirability and employer activity. In addition, Montreal is currently home to over 35,000 international students. There are 6 university level institutions in Montreal, including 4 world-class universities: McGill University, Concordia University, Université de Montréal (UdeM) and Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM). Montreal also has the cheapest tuition in Canada.
QUEBEC
Also known as French Canada, the official language of the Quebec province is French and it is the only province with a population that is predominantly French-speaking. Approximately 80% of the residents speak French as their native language and close to 95% of Quebec population are able to speak French. Quebec has a strong French culture and influence as it was once a colony of France (New France) until the 18th century. Quebecers, or les Québécois, are proud of their French culture which they still uphold as a part of their identity. Quebec is one of the Eastern provinces in Canada which borders with New Brunswick, Ontario, Newfoundland and Labrador, and four U.S. states (New York, New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont) to the south. It is the largest Canadian province by area and the second-most populous province after Ontario. Quebec is the biggest producer of maple syrup in the world; 90% of Canada's maple syrup are from Quebec! The four major cities in Quebec are Montreal, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, and its capital, Quebec City. Furthermore, Quebec is among the greenest provinces in Canada with most of its energy generated from renewable resources, especially hydro and wind.
